western, knee-highs, and lug soles: the best boots for women in 2021
Oh, hello. I didn’t see you there. I’ve just been obsessively staring at boots for the past however long it’s been—weeks? Surely, I can’t be the only one who prefers a good boot to almost all other types of shoes. Good boots are sturdy, practical for walking, versatile year-round, and a great way to express your sense of style.
If you saw the title, you already know I’ve got boots on my mind, and today, we’ll be talking about the best boot trends for women in 2021.
2021 Boot Trends
After scouring through the Spring, Pre-Fall, and Fall 2021 runways and looking to fashion sources such as WhoWhatWear and Stylecaster, I’m here to share what I’ve learned. Continue on below to see discover the 2021 boot trends and where to shop them at each price point.
Funky Western
As someone who’s been sharing ceaseless cowboy emojis with friends for a year and a half, I can’t help but tip my hat to this trend. Of course, we’ve seen western style shoes slinking back into fashion since 2018, but this year, they get the spotlight.
As author Elinor Block from WhoWhatWear points out, the resurgence of cowboy boots took a more minimal approach in recent years—now, maximalist cowboy boots are all the rage. You’ll still see a subdued western motif in a lot of shoe styles this season, but bright, patterned, and playful seems to be the theme.
under is the new over: under-the-knee boots
While the over-the-knee boot is still seen in some collections this year, they are definitely fewer-and-farther between. Instead, the knee-high or just under-the-knee boots are the more widely-spotted alternatives.
Seen in the collections of 3.1 Phillip Lim, Chanel, Lanvin, and more, it’s clear that knee-highs and under-the-knee boots are among the top boot trends in 2021.
lug-soles galore
Lug-soles seem to come in a couple flavors in 2021: Chelseas, platform oxfords, hiking boots, and combat boots. The latter options being a chunkier bunch and the Chelsea’s taking on a somewhat thinner sole than recent seasons. You’ll see this look on the runways of Balmain, Miu Miu, Celine, and many more. It’s safe to say that lug-soles are a huge trend for 2021; you’ve probably already seen them on a lot of your favorite fashion gals and pals.
